GAREAU (Champagne), Marcelle, 95, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family on October 25, 2023. She was a devoted wife of 64 years to the late Dr. Armand Gareau DDS. Armand and Marcelle were married in 1953 and raised their four children together in Lincoln. Born in Montreal, Canada, she was the daughter of the late Georges and Clarinda Champagne, predeceased by nine siblings. She is survived by her three children Genevieve Gareau-Mosse of Crystal Beach, Ontario; Susan Perlini of Cumberland; Pasco Gareau and his wife Pamela of Swansboro, North Carolina. Marcelle is survived by five grandchildren: Jacob Perlini, Nicholas Perlini, Roselina Perlini, Liza Perlini, and Monique Gareau, four great grandchildren, Lily, Piper, Domenic, Shelby and a host of nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her son, Georges A. Gareau.
Marcelle was an accomplished musician and studied classical piano in Montreal. Introduced to Chamber Music in the 1960’s, she became the co-founder of the American Recorder Society (Rhode Island Chapter). She excelled in playing the harpsichord and the recorder.
In most recent years, Marcelle took pleasure in knitting scarves for the homeless and enjoying her lovely home. At one time an avid gardener, she later appreciated watching nature in her beautiful yard, while spending time in prayer and reflection.
Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Monday, November 6, 2023, at 10:00am in Saint Jude Church, 301 Front St., Lincoln, R.I. Burial to follow in Resurrection Cemetery, Cumberland. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the little Trappistine Sisters at Mount Saint Mary’s Abbey, 300 Arnold St. Wrentham, Mass 02903.
